inDemand: a new role for public funders in innovation
Rafael Ataz (inDemand partner from Instituto de Fomento de la Región de Murcia) shares some insights and lessons learned after implementing the inDemand model.
We discussed with him the inDemand model benefits for a funding body, in terms of testing new instruments to boost innovation.
As Rafael points out in the interview, inDemand brings a new perspective in innovation funding – incorporating the demand-side to the equation, that means, the companies’ potential client. Beyond the traditional approach focused on the supply-side, healthcare organisations have the leading role at the inDemand calls: they decide what their unmet needs are and they also have an active role during all the co-creation process.
“For these reasons, there are two main benefits. Firstly, demand-driven calls are more focused than the previous tendency. Secondly, calls based on real demand appear to be more effective in terms of generating business for companies”.
